Thinking
back, the time really went very fast. I still remember my first day of
internship, was weird. Actually I had already some idea of what I would be doing
at my internship, but still confused of how I would be doing it. My goals were
to improve my Spanish and I did so! I actually was speaking Spanish mostly all
the time so that’s was how I achieved my goal! My highlights
of my internship is going to be when we went to NYU WAGNER for the First Encuentro of Adelante Alliance
and when we went to Union Square for the Primero de Mayo (May First), it was
just awesome been there! I want to be an actress after high school. My biggest
challenges were be there always on time. Because be on time isn’t what I do all
the time, but I am working out about that. So, I guess from being an intern for 125
hours, I learned that being late all the time isn’t a good idea. If I will start a new brand of internship next
week, one thing I will do differently is to stay more on the after school
program. Three pieces of advice I would offer a new intern at my site is always
be on time, always finish your tasks on time and be very patient with your
supervisor. If you do all of that you will get a good credits with your
supervisor. But the most important try to do the things there because you want
to but not because you have to! I will miss the most about my internship is the
people from there and the after school program. They were just awesome.

Thank You Letter
Dear Karla,
Since I left Adelante Alliance, I have been trying to write a message to you saying how grateful I am to have had a supervisor like you, but for various reasons, I hadn't finished until now.
I really enjoyed the time we worked together and I want to thank you! Although
the project is not yet completed as we would like, I learned a lot from you and
you opened up new horizons that I had never envisioned. You are a wonderful
supervisor because you have an innate spirit of leadership, knowing when
to praise people and knowing how to encourage people! Thank you for that.
I'm going to miss the conversations we had with the whole group and the
friendship I made in Adelante Alliance. I’ll miss all of you every day but I
hope that we can stay connected. You have given me some very precious memories that
I will not forget.
Sincerely,
Yara Barbosa

Midpoint Reflection
The primary mission of Adelante Alliance is to help Immigrant Woman. So, the main goal is to encourage and motivate women immigrants to prepare themselves so they can pursue their dreams and goals with their dignity. I think if my organization didn't exist anymore there would be a lot of immigrant needing help and advices in their lives and there will be one less more community that can help them to make their dreams. My internship has been similar to my expectations by using the computer to do the most of jobs. For example, by using Facebook to upload videos, interviews, pictures and much more about Adelante Alliance and the difference is that I have to speak more Spanish than English. The environment in my Internship is pretty similar to my school environment. Because in my internship they have tutoring that helps the children do their homework and they have few other programs that they help Spanish speakers learn how to speak and write in English. At my internship I have learned a lot how to communicate with people in a right way and how to listen and take notes from them. I also had few experiences on making interviews with people. I think those skill can help me to get a better job in my future. My relationship with my mentor and co-workers is pretty well. We all work together, which is one of the main symbol of Adelante Alliance, collaboration and respect with each other. I really like to work with them. because we always talking with each other, making fun but at the same time we are working hard to get the goal done.I also think that this is a nice way to work by having fun and be serious at your job at the same time because you never get bored and we always is learnig new things from each other. For example, sometimes I teach the tutoring teacher how to speak Portuguese and they they teach me about their cultures. My Spanish has improved a lot since my internship started. Because I have to speak Spanish mostly all the time by at the same time my English also has improved a lot because I had to speak kind of all the time, so, that helps me gain my communication skills. By making few interviews, answering the phone and translating Spanish to English, It helps me a lot too. Each day at internship I'm required to answer the phone when my supervisor or any co-worker is not there. As a result, I've gotten much better at listening and communicating with people that I never had spoke before. And, one more skill that I have gained is to make calls for different communities (sometimes) or with people that are interested in our community and make time to have an interview with them.Internship has affected my daily life a lot.First of all, we don't have enough classes to complete my assignment, it's really getting in my nerve but I am thinking to try my best in class time and finish all my assignments there rather do them for homework. In the next five weeks left, I am hoping to accomplish all my time, I am trying to learn more about Adelante Alliance history and also to improve my English and Spanish.

My First Impressions
Karla Quinonez is my supervisor. She is very helpful when you ask for help, good listener and she also is a buzy woman. Actually, the office I work in isn't that bigger, is actually small but is very colorful. The neighborhood is half Spanish and half Chinese. Seems be a nice neighbohood to live there though, is not that noise but is not that quiet and there is a lot different stores, some of them are grocery, clothes stores, laundromat, pizza, restaurant, and schools. In my Internship I see few kids, and mostly Spanish women asking for help and maybe two of them are a tutoring teacher for the kids, few men and Ken. Some tasks I have been completed at my internship is changed their facebook account, by putting pictures and write summary about them in Spanish and in English. My schedule for my internship is to 1:30pm until 4:00pm except Fridays and I usually get home around 5pm. One nice thing about my internship is that in the same office that I worlk, there is a Tutoring class there for little kids.
